Putting a Season Together

Presented by:
Paul A. Helfrich
President & Chief Executive Officer, Dayton Performing Arts Alliance

With roots stemming from Philadelphia and extensive education from Indiana University, Paul Helfrich came to Dayton in 2008 to serve as President of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. In less than four years, Paul oversaw the launch of two new series, including the Rockin’ Orchestra series; the completion of a $1.5 million campaign called Protect & Secure; and the negotiation of three collective bargaining agreements with the American Federation of Musicians. He also played a key role in the merger of the Dayton Philharmonic with Dayton Ballet and Dayton Opera to create the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance. Paul brings his leadership to the campus of Springfield Masonic Community to share his insight and expertise about what it takes to create a successful arts season. Time will be allotted for participant questions. Winter refreshments will be served.

Creating the Backdrop

Have you ever wondered how the sets of your favorite production are designed? How are they constructed and how do they move? What about the lighting, the fog and those sounds that seem to make things come alive? These are just a few of the questions that will be explored by a hand selected group of production team members and engineers during this special visit to our Springfield campus. Time will be allotted for participant questions. Refreshments will reflect the creative ideas shared by the guest presenters with our chef as an added surprise to participants.

Closing the Series with the Conductor

Neal Gittleman
Conductor, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra

As the 2016/2017 season closes, Conductor, Neal Gittleman will take the podium and lead our audience through his role with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, including broadening of the Orchestra’s repertoire including 20th century compositions, world, American and Dayton Philharmonic premiers and special collaborations within the Dayton arts community. Springfield Masonic Community is honored to have Maestro Gittleman visit our campus and share his artistic leadership, vision and expertise. Time will be allotted for participant questions. Light spring refreshments will be served.
