November Employee Spotlight

Meet Cinnamon, RN

At Springfield Masonic Community, our employees are super stars! We recently sat down with a Registered Nurse named Cinnamon so she could share her story and the success she’s had at Springfield Masonic Community. Meet Cinnamon, a Springfield Masonic Community Super Star!

How long have you worked at Springfield Masonic Community?

I started working at Springfield Masonic Community six years ago. My first position here was as a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA). From there, I held a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) role for three years and then became a Registered Nurse (RN).

I took advantage of the Tuition Reimbursement to grow within the organization. Starting out as a STNA and then ultimately moving into my current role as a RN would not have been possible without the help and support of the leadership and Tuition Reimbursement program offered at Springfield Masonic Community.

What makes Springfield Masonic Community different than other senior living communities?

The leadership team at Springfield Masonic Community has taught me so much about the senior living industry. Springfield Masonic Community is not a nursing home. It is a continuing care retirement community (CCRC). In the last six years, I’ve been able to transition with our community members through each level of care. Now that I work in the dementia unit, some of the community members I cared for when I worked in long-term care have transferred into my care again.

What do your daily responsibilities include?

At Springfield Masonic Community, we have adopted the “Primary Care Model.” It’s an opportunity for us to connect with our community members on a more meaningful level. Not only do I have my regularly assigned nursing duties like assessments and vitals but I also get the opportunity to assist community members with their daily routines like bathing, eating, and bedtime. By adopting the “Primary Care Model,” the nursing team has become advocates for their community members. You get to be the care giver that you want to be and get the opportunity to flourish.

I love my job because of the connections I am able to make with our community members. In fact, one community member in particular was my ray of sunshine. I remember this one time coming into work having a rough day and feeling overwhelmed with my schoolwork. She took my hand and told me “I know it is hard, but you are going to be okay. You are going to make it through everything will be okay.” She was a wonderful woman. We were so close.

When she ultimately passed, her daughter thanked me personally. She was not able to care and provide for her like we are here and was very grateful of the time her mom spent at Springfield Masonic Community.

What are some of your favorite benefits Springfield Masonic Community offers?

Springfield Masonic Community offer several unique benefits you cannot really find elsewhere. For example, they have introduced a new “Perfect Attendance Program” and not only do you have an opportunity to win monthly and quarterly prizes, but at the end of the year you have a chance to win a brand new car! They now offer an “Educational Assistance Program,” previously called “Tuition Reimbursement Program,” where Springfield Masonic Community pays the institution directly for you and up front versus being reimbursed for the courses and certification programs. It allows us all to continue our education and career opportunities without the worry of the additional expense. It is awesome to see the recognition and the payoff you receive for all of the hard work you go through day in and day out.

What would you tell a prospective applicant about Springfield Masonic Community?

If I were speaking to a group of nursing students, I would tell them to search for employment at an organization that aligns with their own personal values and beliefs. Care and passion are two of my very own personal values and I found that Springfield Masonic Community shares those same values with me. As I was pursing my nursing degree,
I would receive encouragement from my colleagues, management team, and even up to the President. We are all a team together and support one another. At Springfield Masonic Community, we see the person and not just the title. I am very passionate about my career in nursing and am very passionate about the community members I care for. At Springfield Masonic Community, I feel that same passion starts with the President and is passed down to every position within the organization.

Why do you love working at Springfield Masonic Community?

I traditionally work the night shift and in many organizations working the late shift means you become part of the behind the scenes crew. Not here. At Springfield Masonic Community they make you feel like a rock star! For example, Nurses’ Week every shift is included. We each get gifts, shout outs, and personal thank you’s for the work we do from the top level downward.

I love the connections I have been able to make with community members and my teammates. We all have become a family and support and lift each other up. The encouragement we give each other helps us to grow as people and in our careers. Our nursing community at Springfield Masonic Community is all about encouraging each other!
