COVID-19 Update: Following Recommendations from the Governor and the State of Ohio


The Ohio Masonic Home and all of its subsidiaries (Browning Masonic Community, Springfield Masonic Community, Western Reserve Masonic Community, The Ohio Masonic Home Foundation, and The Ohio Masonic Home Resource Center) value our community members, their families, and our employees’ safety and well-being. By the recommendation of the Governor and the State of Ohio, we are temporarily canceling all of our campus events for the time being due to the new information regarding COVID-19, commonly known as Coronavirus.

Family members are welcome to visit the Springfield and Browning campuses if they are symptom-free, have not traveled internationally in the last 14 days to countries with sustained community transmission (to see a complete list of these countries, visit www.coronoavirus.ohio.gov), have not had contact with someone who has a confirmed case of COVID-19 or currently resides in a community where community-based spread of COVID-19 is occurring.

Due to the proximity of the recent COVID-19 diagnosis in Cuyahoga County, we will temporarily be suspending family member visitations at our Western Reserve campus per the new CDC and CMS guidelines. The new guidelines limit visitation to Skilled Nursing Facilities that are in counties, or adjacent counties, where a COVID-19 diagnosis has occurred. Limiting visits means that individuals are unable to enter the facility except for certain situations. These situations include end of life or when a visitor is essential to the community member’s emotional well-being and care. We have extended this to include all Assisted Living community members, Independent Living community members, and their visitors and families, effective March 10, 2020. Should a visit be essential to the emotional well-being and care of one of our community members, then the visit must take place in the community member’s room.

All visitation, including for end of life or emotional well-being and care visits, is strictly prohibited for those who meet the following criteria:

  1. Signs or symptoms of a respiratory infection, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, or sore throat.
  2. Has had contact with someone, within the last 14 days, who has a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19, or is under investigation for COVID-19, or is ill with respiratory illness.
  3. Participated in international travel, in the last 14 days, to countries with sustained community transmission.  Currently those countries are China, Japan, South Korea, Iran, and Italy.
  4. Resides in a community where community based spread of COVID-19 is occurring.

We are monitoring this situation very closely and appreciate your patience during this time.  We will continue to actively communicate with our employees and our community members as we receive additional information.
