Meet Cheyenne, STNA
At Springfield Masonic Community, our employees are super stars! We recently sat down with an STNA named Cheyenne so she could share her story and the success she’s had at Springfield Masonic Community. Meet Cheyenne, a Springfield Masonic Community Super Star celebrating a year at our campus!
How long have you worked at Springfield Masonic Community?
I have worked as an STNA for 11 years between here and Illinois. This is my second time working at SMC and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
What makes Springfield Masonic Community different than other senior living communities?
I work on the 4th floor most of the time. By doing that, I really get to know my patients and I get to spoil my patients. I talked with one patient about what she liked for breakfast, an omelet, and where she would get the omelet. So one day I brought her breakfast. I was excited to see her so happy.
What do your daily responsibilities include?
I work 3rd shift, so each night I put some of my patients to bed, while some are already in bed when I arrive. I check on them throughout the night. I take some of them to the bathroom and others I bring snacks and sherbet. I help them get up in the morning and I help some with their showers.
What are some of your favorite benefits Springfield Masonic Community offers?
As of yet, I have not used any of these benefits, however I am planning to. Before I came to SMC, I was working and going to school in Illinois, and I am only two classes away from completing my prerequisites. With having two children and moving to Ohio my degree was put on hold, but I am looking forward to starting back to school and finishing my education. My goal is to become an RN.
Employees can also win gift cards for attendance and can be entered into a drawing to win a car!
What would you tell a prospective applicant about Springfield Masonic Community?
I love my job and the people that I work with. I feel like we are a team and we enjoy each other. We get along with each other. Even on a busy and stressful night we have fun while doing our jobs. This isn’t just a job, it feels like home. I feel appreciated by my supervisors. There is also the opportunity to get overtime. When my shift is over and my patients move on the day shift, I know they will get great care and that I don’t have to worry about them. There is a strong work ethic as SMC and that works for me. That’s how I was raised.
Why do you love working at Springfield Masonic Community?
There are so many reasons. I like the challenge that working at SMC offers. I also like the routine and the consistency. I have worked with patients in memory care as well as those with other types of needs.
I like to get to know my patients and be there for them. Some of them don’t have family in the area to visit so the consistency of seeing the same people regularly and taking the time to get to know them helps to brighten their day and mine too. Sometimes I will share stories about my two children with them. I like to make their day better.
Working at SMC is not just a job. I know each day I am “walking into their home” and I want to make their day the best day possible.
