Another Successful SMC Blood Drive

Right now the American Red Cross is facing an emergency blood shortage.  The hospital demands continue to outpace the number of donations being received.  On top of that, they are also experiencing the lowest blood donor turnout since the pandemic began and more blood donors are needed now!

On November 24th, community members, staff and Springfield residents came to the Festival Green Clubhouse on the Springfield Masonic Community to donate blood. A total of 42 donors came to donate. Ten of those were walk-in unscheduled appointments.

There were 10 staff and two community members that chose to donate.  Thirty-six units of blood were donated and among those were three power red donors, which allows the donor to donate two units of blood at one time while returning your platelets and plasma back to the donor.

SMC Blood Drive had eight first time donors.  Rhiannon Cheow, from the OMH Marketing Team was attending the blood drive simply to take pictures of the event.  Understanding the true need in the country for blood donations, she made the decision right on the spot to become a first time donor.

The next scheduled blood drive is February 24th from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM at the Festival Green Clubhouse. You can register online to donate at www.redcrossblood.org     Sponsor code is:  OMH.
