What would your job entail?

SUMMARY:

The Accountant prepares financial statements, account analysis and schedules to support general ledger accounts.  Assists with the preparation of tax, government and external reports as needed.   Responsible for timely reporting to meet operational needs and external reporting due dates.  Serves as support for budgeting and other finance and accounting related functions as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain the general ledger for assigned facilities, to ensure financial and statistical data accuracy for financial reporting.
  2. Produce timely financial reports to meet monthly, quarterly and annual reporting deadlines.
  3. Maintain effective systems of internal controls. Initiate and promotes continuous improvement of methods, processes, and systems.
  4. Ensure that balance sheet account reconciliations are maintained.
  5. Ensure accuracy of inter-company and inter-fund balances and allocated costs as appropriate.
  6. Maintain accounting records for specialty areas as assigned (this may change on a rotational basis) which may include fixed assets, investments, debt, endowment funds and contributions, tax reporting for all corporations including 990 returns, real estate taxes, 5500 returns for pension and welfare benefit plans, workers compensation.
  7. Prepare budget schedules and other analysis as needed.
  8. Support other departments throughout the organization.
  9. Other duties as assigned.
  • Additional responsibilities:
    • Oversight of the organization-wide
      • Accounts Payable
        • Implementation and maintenance of OCR technology with purchasing system
        • Great Plains full integration of Accounts Payable including EFT and ACH payments
      • Prepaids
        • Full automation utilizing Great Plains
      • Accruals
        • Full automation utilizing Great Plains
      • Preparation of the monthly Supplemental Files

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
